Standard canisters

The product range contains the K1, K6, KE, K and 4 types for small 1-liter canisters up to the maxi canister with a capacity of 60 liters. Manufactured in a BRC certified environment and under ISO 9001 regulations, the stacking canisters are made of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) approved for foodstuffs. Furthermore, the canisters are approved for goods of Class I and II hazardous materials according to the international ADR/RID/ICAO-TI/IMDG regulations.

Special Canisters

Type K4, B-Line, conductive / current drainage, 3-layer, customized canisters

The conductive / current discharge canisters are manufactured using the 3-layer coex process. They fulfil the requirements of the ATEX 137/TRBS2153 and CENELEC 50404 explosion protection directives, and are therefore suitable for flammable media.
The B-line canister is a high-end product with a high-density barrier layer, thus protecting the filling materials from oxidation and evaporation.

Fischer b-line

For some easily dispersible filling media, standard canisters made of HD polyethylene are not diffusion-resistant enough. This means that a part of the filling material with a longer storage period diffuses through the canister’s wall. Apart from the loss of filling material, this diffusion causes any labels used to peel off and can affect your sense of smell. Apart from these effects, these seeping filling materials can also be a safety hazard, since the gases thus created are likely to be explosive or toxic.

Processing- and material-related solutions have been available for quite a long time to improve the barrier attributes of containers:

Coextrusion (multiple-layer technology)
Cross-linking of raw materials by means of chemical or physical systems
Coating of containers, e.g. using DLCT, fluorine or sulfonate
Adding a barrier material, including polyamide compound
Increasing the molecular weight

The most important solutions are summarized in the following table together with their advantages and disadvantages:

Due to the various requirements and price expectations of our customers, we have developed, in close collaboration with various manufacturers of raw materials, a new barrier material which is added to the polyethylene during the customary manufacturing process. Depending on the filling materials, appr. 4–6% of the barrier layer material is added. This leads to an interesting price compared to the containers available today that have similar diffusion resistance.

The result is a diffusion resistance that is 10 to 20 times higher than that offered by ethanol.

Increase safety when filling and emptying nonpolar, easily flammable liquids by using the new conductive 3-layer canister from Fischer Söhne.

Use

The new guidelines, which have been in effect in Germany since April 2009, are to be introduced throughout all of Europe within the next few years, including Switzerland (according to TRBS* 2153, “Avoiding Ignition Hazards due to Static Electricity”). According to this, isolating containers for flammable fluids can only be used for up to 5 l. If flammable fluids are filled into a container exceeding 5 l, the canisters must be one that discharges.

Safety and compliance

Increase safety during the filling process, especially for your customers, when emptying non-polar, easily flammable fluids by filling them into conductive 3-layer canisters. The danger of so-called brush discharge and its dangerous sparks is only something to be afraid of if the volume of the canister in question exceeds 5 liters. This is why Fischer Söhne offers these containers in 20 l, 25 l and 30 l sizes.
